When I had ECU problems, it started something like that. I would run
fine much of the time, but would sometime start acting up. It seemed if
I gave it more gas, it would pick up and work, but eventually it got
worse to where it would do it all the time, and accelerating wouldn't
make a difference. It turned out it was running bad because Injector 3
and sometimes Injector 5 wasn't firing. I pulled the ECU and replaced
the caps and cleaned up the board as best I could, and Injector 5 seemed
to work now, but injector 3 still had problems. Ended up buying a used
ECU from a junk yard for about $150 and that's been working since Jan
with no problems, though it ran sub-par for a little while after I
started it the first time, but after the computer "learned" about new
home, performance it back to as good as it's always been.
