Right, if we simply let team3s.com expire then we're taking our chances with the domain squatters. Worst case I'll put in a backorder with GoDaddy before it expires, hopefully that should get the domain name before the squatters can get to it. There still may be a few weeks of down time during the transfer if it comes to that.

In the meanwhile, I'm trying to work with Bob's sister to get team3s.com transferred before it expires. Keep your fingers crossed. If we can get it transferred then I can just transfer the lists over to the new server with a minimum of disruption. That'll also let me put www.team3s.com back online.

The backup plan is to simply move the lists over to team3s.org

For anyone not into the tech babble I apologize now this will get techie for a bit.  I think its important that what we discuss here is open to all members of the list.

Its doubtful that we’ll be able to grab team3s.com when it comes up. I had a similar issue with 3snationalgathering.com and it went to a company that specializes in buying names that lapse.  It may be possible to pay for the name and keep it registered but then we run into the loss of the hosting in 2 weeks.

Changing the MX will only work until the current server goes off line. Once that server is gone if we can’t change the DNS pointers team3s.com will be for all intents dead.

If we can change the DNS we can move the server and we can even pay for the name to keep it live. We don’t have to own it to keep it alive.

I don't believe we have access to the DNS records for team3s.com at this point.

It looks like it will expire in October of this year and we can grab it then.

In the meanwhile I have setup team3s.org and have a mirror of the old team3s.com web site.

As for the mailing lists, team3s.com is apparently using www.mohflo.com for it's mail server. While we can't change the MX record for tesm3s.com, if we can point www.mohflo.com to a new server we should be able to move the mailing lists without getting access to team3s.com. If we can't do that, then we'll have to move the mailing lists over to team3s.org.

I’ll happily setup to support Team 3S and the mailing lists.

Whats the status on the domain name? Do we have the ability to change the DNS pointers?
